The Pearl
A seashell! Mysterious and full of promise. Could there really be a pearl inside? Biba the Beaver is overjoyed. The joy, the fascination that arises from finding the shell, and the hope for complete happiness, immediately resonate with the audience when Maike Jansen, as Biba, excitedly considers the magnificent shell on stage. And then, exhausted from all his contemplation about the hoped-for pearl, Biba falls asleep and dreams.
With a wonderfully gigantic pearl around his neck, the dreaming beaver experiences the power of such a wondrous pearl. The audience, both young and old, at the Hobbit Theatre in Würzburg is captivated and empathizes as the two magnificent actors, Stefan Ferencz and Maike Jansen, perform Helme Heine's book "The Pearl" on stage with perfect, precise physical theatre, clownish elements, and a predominantly mimetic "speaking" style, creating a thoroughly poetic interpretation.
They succeed in making Biba's character and the feelings of each of his friends tangible. The two actors perform so powerfully that even as a spectator, you can completely empathize with the deep, almost phlegmatic calm of the moose (stunningly portrayed by Stefan Ferencz), the fast-paced leaps and airy nature of the rabbit (heavenly lightness, played by Maike Jansen), the capricious pig, and the bear's temperament. The two also vividly bring their individually shaped desires to life on stage. Everything is acted and conveyed with such intensity that you could almost forget that Biba is dreaming; you almost feel a racing heart, wondering how it will all end.
Because everyone wants it, the pearl. Everyone tries to get their hands on it. Any means are justified. It all started with a lie. Biba had found the pearl in the forest… And finally? As a consequence of all the covetous back and forth? No beaver lodge, no dam, and ultimately no water at all. Instead, drought and impending disaster, which then came: an all-consuming fire.
You can hear it. The flickering. You can see it. Thanks to the enormous, sweeping flag of fire, curved in tremendous arcs and shapes, that comes alive, truly becomes fire, almost taking your breath away. A truly ingenious artistic device that almost lets you smell the fire, this all-consuming fire ignited by discontent, acquisitiveness, and selfishness, which destroys everything and burns—or would burn—the very foundation of life…
For these exhilarating minutes are followed by redemption. It was all just a dream! Biba awakens, comes "back," staggers a little: And now? He hesitates, looks at the shell, and realization dawns on him. But he doesn't leave it at that.
He takes action. The mussel has to go. And with a flourish, it flies back into the pond.
Finally free again: time for friends.

The pearl drives everyone crazy
.... Die Muschel aber bleibt zu, der kleine Biber versinkt in einem Traum. Das Kinderstück "Die Perle" beruht auf einer Geschichte von Helme Heine, Premiere der Bühnenfassung von "pohyb's und konsorten" war am Freitag im Linzer Kuddelmuddel. Das deutsche Theaterduo Maike Jansen und Stefan Ferencz zelebriert liebevoll die Figuren, die Tiere im Wald und den Biber.
Anmutig und clownesk, kindlich und allzu menschlich. Doch Bibers Traum hat es in sich, die (bloß imaginäre!) Perle stiftet mächtig Unfrieden unter den Tieren. Bär, Elch, Hase und Schwein (vergnüglich Ferencz als dezent snobistisches Schwein Jasmin) trocknen den Fluss aus und fackeln sogar den Wald ab. Wenn man so will: Ein Ökothriller zum Thema tierischmenschliche Gier, aber eben sehr charmant verpackt. "Mein See!", ruft der Biber und wacht aus seinem egoschwangeren und unheilvollen Traum auf. Und lässt die Muschel Muschel sein und sie über's Wasser flitzen.
Im Kindertheater funktioniert das noch, aus schrecklichen Träumen zu erwachen.

Es war sooo schön
Stadtbücherei Hofheim; Kommentar zu Vorstellung "Die Perle" in Hofheim 26.11.2022 von Hildegund Fischer - Giebfried
....Die gespannten Gesichter der Zuschauer:innen mit den großen Augen zu beobachten, ist immer wieder spannend.
Ihr habt "Die Perle" ganz toll bearbeitet und dargestellt. Der Inhalt des Bilderbuchs, das ja schon 1984 erschienen ist, ist ja wirklich immer noch brand-aktuell; auch das hat mich in eurer Darstellung tief bewegt. Ich weiß gar nicht, wo ich anfangen soll, meine Begeisterung zu schildern: Biba, die die Muschel findet und ganz stolz herumträgt, jedem zeigt und so den Neid der anderen: Bär, Elch, Hase und Schwein mit ihren ganz unterschiedlichen Charakteren auf sich zieht... der See, der plötzlich keine Wasser mehr hat... der Wald, der verschwindet... Ganz besonders begeistert hat mich -zusammen mit dem Publikum- neben den clownesken Streitszenen, bei denen die Kinder ja immer total mitgehen, die Darstellung des Feuers von den ersten Flammen
bis um großen Feuer. Der Einsatz der Fahne, die den großen Brand demonstriert, ganz super, Maike!
Danke noch einmal dafür, dass Ihr uns das Stück angeboten habt, wir - auch dank der Förderung-sofort zugreifen konnten
und so euer neues Stück hier in Hofheim, in eurer Heimatstadt, zeigen konnten.
Nicht nur ich war wieder einmal begeistert, auch die Familien im Publikum zeigten sich sehr berührt und begeistert und nutzten die Möglichkeit, mit euch persönlich ins Gespräch zu kommen.
Das war einfach toll! Super Sache, gerne wieder!
